Words for Wednesday 8/21

Life magazines for shin guards, / Skates too big, stick cracked and old, / jacket patched and tattered. / I ignored the smirks and winter's cold, / love of hockey was all that mattered.

What is it about this state and their obsession with hockey?  Yes, I get it, it’s cold here, and hockey is the state sport accordingly.  Here’s the thing though:  Hockey is boring.  And when it’s not boring, it’s violent.  It may come off snooty, but I’m pretty sure a passion for hockey is something you should be a little ashamed of, like a guilty pleasure.

…Nobody here seems to agree with me.  But I’m just saying – we also have a state muffin, and you don’t see anybody getting all up in arms about that.  I would like a sidewalk poem that is an Ode to the Muffin of Blueberries.
